Good evening,
On Saturday, June 12, at 1 p.m. EDT (USA) Palatines to America German Genealogy Society, NY Chapter, will give me the opportunity to perform a lecture entitled „Saint Wendelin travels to America“ via Zoom. I will talk in the language I assume is English. It may differ from what you are accustomed in one or two aspects. But I promise to do my best. This lecture is about emigrants from Germany who moved to upstate New York;their experiences and the culture they brought with them. The lecture starts in my hometown St. Wendel, Germany, and follows the emigrants to Perkinsville, town of Wayland, Steuben County. I will discuss how that county became what is is and talk about the settlement on Sandy Hill and its location and compare it to settlements in recent and past Germany. One topic will be the cholera epidemic in 1834. Finally St. Wendelin will arrive in Perkinsville in 1896. Genealogy and local history lead me into emigration research and in 1997 I located a small bone fragment in the catholic church of Perkinsville, Wayland, Steuben County, New York. I soon realized it was part of a relic of St. Wendelin, a saint from the 7th century. The other pieces of the relic are today stored and worshipped in the cathedral of my hometown of St. Wendel in Germany. The performance will start at 1 p.m. due to the fact that I will talk from my home in Germany to my audience in America six hours in the past. This lecture is offered FREE to Palatines to America members and non-members. *Pre-registration is required by emailing: „Palamnygmail.com“ with the name and email address of those wishing to participate.* Non-members are encouraged to become members of Palatines to America German Genealogy Society. Visit www.PalAm.org <http://www.palam.org/> for more information. A day or two prior to the date, you will be emailed a link to ZOOM. For questions, please email: Palamnygmail.com Mit freundlichen Grüßen Roland Geiger -------------------- Roland Geiger Historische Forschung Alsfassener Straße 17, 66606 St. Wendel Tel. 06851-3166 email www.hfrg.de <http://www.hfrg.de> _______________________________________________ Saarland-L mailing list https://list.genealogy.net/mm/listinfo/saarland-l |
