Dear JB, Thank you for your response. I hired a researcher in BERLIN LAST YEAR and he spent a year running down all the leads I HAD FROM FAMILY HERE. ALL FALSE. hE FOUND THE RECORD OF jOHANN LEAVING Friedland and going to 
Berlin. Everything else fits to my grandfather who left BERLIN IN1873 to the USA.I tried reading the records from BERLIN ORIGINALLY but all I did was get frustrated. The researcher sent me regular GERMAN RECORDS FROM THE EVANGELICAL church in BERLIN. If I don't find enough help from this web site I guess I will have to have someone else do it . Any more suggestions? Adele

Dear Mona and Michele,

I am also doing research in the Uelzen area and am very interested in 
the information in your two e-mails!

My family came from areas around Uelzen, Lüneburg, and also Celle. The 
towns around Uelzen are south - Drohe, Wieren, Bodenteich, and 
Langenbrügge. My family surnames from the Uelzen area are Endeward, 
Schulz, and Hagemann. I know that there were other Endeward families 
from north of Uelzen, but I have been unable to connect with their 
families. Endeward is a very uncommon name in Germany.

Does this book contain any information on towns south of Uelzen?
I would also be very interested in contacting both Mr. Boe and Lady 
Bonita if you would think they may have any information on these towns 
or families from these towns.

I hope to visit Lüneburg and perhaps Uelzen the last week of July. I 
would also be interested in any information on archivs in Uelzen and 
surrounding areas. I am currently formulating my plans and attempting 
to contact archivs, churches, etc. to schedule appointments. 

This trip will be sadder for me as my cousin that I found and visited 
four years ago has past away. He was a wonderful man and also my guide 
and translator on my last trip. I will miss him terribly!

Dear List Members,

I am planning a trip to Lüneburg the last week of July. Does anyone on 
this list speak English and live in the Lüneburg area? 

I am having difficulty in getting a response via e-mail from the Archiv 
in Lüneburg. I am attempting to schedule an appointment for my visit. 
I am also trying to contact the tourist office for tour information, etc.

I would appreciate any suggestions. I will be traveling to Lüneburg 
from Magdeburg, after visiting family there. Would love to meet anyone 
from the list living in the area!

Gale - You are right about Bremen. It was the ship, not where he was born. I have been staring at this little bit of info for so long, I couldn't see it anymore!

I have two letters from Charles to my Grandmother dated 1911. That is how I found him and his address in New Jersey. He was never spoken of in the family. It was like he never really existed. My grandmother never mentioned him and the rest of her family seemed unaware that he was in the United States. 

The information I have on Charles was obtained from the LDS site. I found a marriage in New York to an Ida Kock. They moved to New Jersey and in the 1880 census they were listed as having 4 children.

Caroline 12, b. New York
Emily 10, b. New York
Anthony 8, b. New Jersey
Ida 1, b. New Jersey

Mother-in -law Emily (also listed as Amalia Balzer) Kock

I am assuming that the fact he left his family in Germany and came to the US and then remarried was probably a big scandal.

When Albert arrived in the US, his father Charles had two children with Ida.

Charles signed one letter "Your old grandfather, Carl Loges" and the other, "Your loving Grandpapa, Charles Loges". I am assuming his name was Charles.

I know nothing about his parents, just the information that was listed on the LDS site.

Albert was very ill in 1911 and Charles was sending my grandmother who was the oldest and 18 years old, $50 to help out. He said he would try and send $50 at a later date. Albert died a few days later and left 6 children with no mother or father. Albert's wife died when my grandmother was 11 yrs old.

In the last letter he said "We all feel very sorry here for you children and feel that you have a hard time." I realized "We" meant there were other people and began looking for a family and that is when I found Ida.

I have no idea where anyone was really born. Ida is listed as being born in Magdeburg Stadt, Sachsen on the LDS site. Charles is listed as Hannover, Preussen in the site. I thought I would take a wild stab in the dark and post to this list.
