Ins Land der Franken fahren.

Hallo, Franken, und solche die es gerne sein moechten, warte schon
ueber 24 Stunden fuer eine einzige kleine Meldung, aber nichts kommt,
was ist los? Niemand zuhause?

Hello, listers, I joined this list yesterday and have yet to see the
first posting, anybody home? This short note is to let you know that
I am not a 'Franke', rather a Hesse, and my hobby is to research the
Hessians of the American Revolution, the one's which were hired by
King George III to fight those rebels. Many of them were called
Hessians, but really came from all corners of Germany, why, there
was even a Regiment from Bayreuth, and one from Ansbach, we call them
the Ansbach-Bayreuther. Interesting stuff.
Just today I researched one who came from Erlangen, the city just
north of Nuernberg. His name was Zeilmann.

Well, that's all the introduction I give you for today, who wants
to know more, by all means put some questions on this list.
BTW, does this list have an archive? And if it has, how do I access it?
John Helmut Merz, http://www.cgo.wave.ca/~hessian
I am at home in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Hello, Frankenland, could not at least the listowner reply to
my question? Not only did I not see any postings go through, but this
posting of mine was not answered. Or is it just you and me? John

OK, I'll play along. What do Hessian soldiers have to do with our franken
newsgroup?
and did Joan Z get back from her trip?
and What happened to Joe's trip to Zanesville?
what happened to the energy of the last roll call? I get 3-6 messages a day
in my Hannover group. This one has been quiet for weeks.

My goodness, here is an answer, but really, your questions are a
bit off the mark, or are you just kidding me?
What have Hessians to do with the Franken? I left the explanation
of my first posting for you to read and digest once more.
Unless Bayreuth, Ansbach and Erlangen don't belong to the Franken,
then we don't have anything to talk about, but if this places belong
to the Franken area which this list is supposed to cover, then we
have a lot to talk about, does that agree with you?
Cheerfully, John :)

Maybe John tried to encourage some discussion? :-)

Seriously, the Ansbacher Jäger were from Frankenland. John
mentions Erlangen, that was in the Markgraftentum Ansbach-
Bayreuth-Kulmbach or short the Fürstentum Ansbach. These
Jägers who were shipped here to serve the British are often referred
to as the Hessian Jägers when they really were Franken folk. Quite
a few died here and others stayed.

my trip

From: Joan Zeller <71163.573(a)compuserve.com>

Hello Jim and Group,

Yes, I'm back from my trip, and what a fantastic trip it was! I haven't
forgotten the list, just haven't had time to post. Haven't even organized
my photos, entered my data, or finished all my thank you notes yet.

The trip was most fruitful. I answered all the questions I had hoped to,
solved some old mysteries, and found many more questions and mysteries to
work on. I do plan on letting you folks know details, especially about
archives, but I'm still trying to catch up on my life.

In short, accessibility to records was completely variable depending on
local interpretation of the regulations, from letting me see and copy
anything I wanted, to not even letting me SEE records that were not my
direct ancestors. More later.

One question: does anyone know what the letters "S.S.r.b.d.S." at the
bottom of a tombstone stand for? I found this on several graves in
Kleinbardorf.

Franken Query

Date: 1998/10/28 13:07:59
From: SISTER ANNAMARY FELLNER <afellner(a)mail.usmo.com>

My great grandparents, George and Anna (LOOSHORN) FELLNER
emigrated from Geusmanns (near Elbersberg) Oberfranken to the
U.s. in 1877. George's father (also named George) and his brother
(George Peter) followed them to the U.S. several years later.

George had three sisters who remained in Germany. One of them
(Anna Fellner) married Lawrence DRESSEL and they moved to
Etzdorf. Three of the Dressel children (George, Marie, and
Margaret) moved to the U.S. The other three remained in Germany:
one became a Carmelite nun (Sister Romana) and
the other two (Christine Helldorfer and Anna Heumann) married.

George's grandparents were JOHANNES & MAGDALENA
(STROBEL) FELLNER. George's mother's maiden name was
ZITZMANN.

Anna (Looshorn) Fellner had several brothers and sisters; one of
these was JOHN LOOSHORN who died in 1942 and who still has
descendants living in the Geusmanns/Elbersberg area.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might have a
suggestion as to how I could discover more about my Germany
ancestry.
Thank you very much!

Hallo,

I can't offer any help with Rossel (if with the help of my Cassell's German
& English I came anywhere close to the meaning of your message) but perhaps
you can help me. As they say leave not stone (well, in the case, Mueller)
unturned. I'm looking for any information on Nicholas Mueller who married
Elizabeth Hubbman in Buchold.
