Hello Lisa, the low german speaking for Oldenburg was formerly like Olnborg, therefore ist could be Oldenburg. But the name Kerk is in Oldenburg not present. There is a concentration in the Emsland/Lingen area, near the Netherland border. The emigration book for Lingen county listed one name: - Franz Heinrich Kerk, born 17.Dec.1859 in Espel, emigrated 1867 There is also listed some Kerckhoff/Kerkhoff. I hope it helps, Werner Honkomp > Has anyone heard of a Olnburg Germany? It is in an old Obituary that > Catherine Maria Kerk was born on November 1, 1826 in Olnburg Germany and > came to America when she was 8 yrs. > Maybe this is just a typo for Oldenburg? Any suggestions? > Thanks for assistance. > Lisa Niemeyer > Oldenburg-L mailing list > Oldenburg-L(a)genealogy.net > http://list.genealogy.net/mailman/listinfo/oldenburg-l
