I used to have such trouble when my colleagues in our Germany office gave me a number to dial starting with 0.

In Germany, 0 is the number to dial to get long distance access, so when dialing from the U.S., you don't dial that zero.

From the U.S., you have to dial 011 for international access. So dialing international from the U.S., always start with 011 followed by the country code (49 for Germany), then the rest of the number. Note: there is no preceding "1" for long distance service.

Kelly, I always have trouble dialing overseas. Maybe some kind soul in
Germany will try the numbers for you? :-)

I tried these numbers but am having no luck getting them to go through.
They never ring. I dialed 01149 and then the number listed. Is that the
correct way? Thanks so much for your help.

Good luck! Just a suggestion, which you've probably already tried-have you contacted the company for which she worked? Have you tried the German telephone directory? It's possible, especially since she had children, that she kept her married name although she was divorced.

Hello Martin,

I am trying to find information on an old friend of mine who used to
live in the Idar-Oberstein area. Her name is Michelle Massaquoi (this
was her married name when she and I were friends.) She has since
divorced and I am trying to find her to reconnect. She has two sons and
a daughter. I do not know her German maiden name, only her married
name. She used to work for Giloy in Idar-Oberstein. I would like to
find an address or phone number where I could contact her. Can you
suggest where I could go to find such information?

Thanks so much for any information you can offer.

Sincerely,

Kelly
