Hello James--

Re your Hermann Wichmann.  

I have been helping Susie Ferrell trace her Riche family which appeared in Osternburg.  Her immigrant, Hermann Rische, was from Osternburg, and his grandmother was Ahkle Marg. Wichmann, bn abt 1790 in Lintel, Hude Parish (just outside of Oldenburg).  This family would possibly have been related to your Wichmanns.  Susie's email address is susie.ferrell(a)sbcglobal.net

A good person for you to contact about this family (as he has studied it now in some detail, is Manfred Moenning, Parkstrasse 56, 27798 Hude (Oldb).  Manfred is as knowledgeable about this area's genealogy as anyone,  and enjoys helping Americans trace their roots a great deal .  There are only 2 caveats:  1) he doesn't speak or write English; and 2) he is not online--all correspondence must be by mail.  But if he can possibly help you, he will be glad to do it.
