Kathy,

When I visited St. Peter and Paul Catholic church office in Ösede in 1979 and again in 1994 they were very helpful. We located two generations of church records for my Hemann ancestors. Joseph A. Hemann was born and baptized in Ösede in 1816 and immigrated to the US in 1837. His published biography from 1876 has been transcribed and uploaded to Wikipedia.

We are also researching the family of Henry Bernard Brueggeman (1883-1941) who lived in Cincinnati. Any connections?

Kathy,

St. Peter und Paul (kath.) holds the Kirchenbücher for the
Bauerschaften Dröper, Klosterbauerschaft Oesede and Dorf Oesede for
Baptisms & Marriages since 1651. Deaths since 1665.

So, in effect Oesede was made up of the community of farms owned by
the cloister and then there is also the village of Oesede itself. I
don't think the LDS has the records but I did not check. The originals
would be kept at the Diozesan Archiv,
