My Great-Grandparents (Louise and Heinrich Willhiem Woeltge, Sr. both born
in 1869), grandfather (Heinrich Willhiem Woeltge, Jr. b. 18/5/1891) and
great-Aunts (Bertha b. 1894 and Wilhermina Woeltge b. 1899) immigration
records show that they sailed to New York's Ellis Island from Hamburg on the
SS Deutschland in 1904. The ships manifest lists the spelling of their last
name as Wöltje, although here in the USA and Canada it has always been
spelled Woeltge (Woeltje on one USA Census of 1920) and listed their
hometown in Germany as Wisferling. I could find no such town in Germany
named Wisferling I did find in the State records of Minnesota, when my
Grandfather registered for the draft into the Army, he listed his city of
origin in Germany as Gross-Mahner a city which does exist just south-west of
Hamburg. I am trying to find any information about family members in
Germany or may have immigrated to the USA or Canada. I corresponded with a
Henk Weltje in The Nederlands who wrote that his family once lived near
Bremen and in the 1790's his family attended a Royal Family member of the
kingdom of Hanover when that royal became George IV of England sometime
there after his family moved to the Nederlands. Many Woeltge's and
Woeltje's have moved to the USA according to immigration and census records
back to about the 1800's when the USA government started keeping record of
emigrants. But, I can not find any direct link to my family since I know
nothing of my Great-Grandparents life in Germany and who they were related
to. You could please give me any information you may have on my family or
a source that I may find that information it would be greatly appreciated.
