Hello Cindy,

I was thinking more about your Tranel family last night. I would
imagine you have looked here:
 http://www.emslanders.com/tra.htm for the Tranel family.

Note that sometimes the Tranel is Trannel and the spelling of the town
near Lingen is Schepsdorf. (no F)

If I were you, I would think about seeking the records from the Meppen
office (which holds Catholic records for that area). It is a branch of the
Catholic diocese of Osnabrück. When I was completely lost as to the
birthplace of my great-grandmother, I got help from there via email. The man
there sent enough so I could go back much farther. They do charge a 20 euro
per hour for the research, but it should not cost much if you have the
correct town.

We all like to get information for free, but it seldom works that way.
In our travels to Germany, we went to two Catholic dioceses (Osnabrück and
another in Bavaria) and did research and we had to pay for every copy. From
what I hear, the LDS are aiming to put absolutely everything they have
online eventually. Of course, they might have to work hard to get some
dioceses (like Osnabrück) to allow that to happen. Some dioceses have
allowed them to copy everything and others do not.

Then, I have managed to use Google and found researchers (some German) in
the same area. The very first great find was a man from the Netherlands who
gave me one long side of our family (and that was free).I have received a
lot of information that way. Most people like to share what they have to
find matches or just some hints. We have to DIG and DIG!

I wish I could be of more help!

 Barbara
