Can I make some corrections? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maureen" <mcshelly2(a)msn.com> To: <hannover-l(a)genealogy.net> Sent: Monday, September 17, 2007 2:09 PM Subject: [HN] Words in German Records Can someone possibly help me translate three German words? Standesamtlich --- (getraut) Married in a civil wedding - Standesamt - is the hall of records, births, weddings, funerals. Standesamtlich is having something done there in those three areas. If you want to be legally married you have to have a standesamtiche Hochzeit. You can have a church service but that is for show only, it is not legal. Begraben --- Bury-burial-funeral - begraben actually means buried. Funeral is Beerdigung. Getauft --- Baptized getauft - can be christened as well as baptized. Also, this sign in German genealogy? o-o- sign of separated rings-Illegitimate union ausserehelich? --- Not sure of the blank one. Many thanks for your time and trouble!
