Hello Christine,

First of all, the name of Knüppel (with the umlaut) is fairly common in
the Hannover area. You can see the name on this website as it is today:

http://christoph.stoepel.net/geogen/en/Default.aspx

Be sure to use the umlaut although there are a few with it spelled Knueppel.

You might be interested to see many of the Knüppel or Knuppel names here:

http://geneanet.org/ Put in the Knuppel name and you will find a great
many with that name.

As to the town where Sophie came from, the name is obviously misspelled.
I cannot find anything YET. I have a very detailed German atlas with a
great index, but I have yet to find what the name of that town could be. I
have also looked all around the town of Uslar on the map and don't see the
mysterious town. One of the Germans on this list may know!

The name of Schroder (Schröder or Schroeder) is so common. Hopefully, you
will find him in the Uslar records. There is an Ortssippenbuch for Uslar,
but it is likely to be difficult to find in the USA.

Good luck!
Barbara
