Hi Cindy,
Have you ever searched the Tenfelde book? There are two Tranels listed
there. Here's the book:
"Emigration and Emigrants from the Former County Lingen to North America"
Nancy, at this site, will look for the names. Here is the website:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/tenfelde/index.htm
The site - Emslanders.com lists some Tranels from Schepsdorf. They
lived in Menominee as did your John Bernard did.
Schepsdorf (which is near Lingen)is shown as the birthplace of other
Tranels on the Emslanders.com website. The Tenfelde book covers the COUNTY
of Lingen and maybe Schepsdorf would also be listed. Maybe not.
You could also look at the microfilm for Schepsdorf-Lohne which the LDS
holds. They are Catholic records.
On the other hand, you could look for records from Bawinkle where more
Tranel came from. They are also Catholic records. Some of the Tranels listed
on the Emslanders site are also from the area of Bawinkle.
I have a feeling that you have already done this research. I remember you
had written to the list some time back. These dead ends are the hardest
things to get past!
If you would want to pay some money for the Catholic records, there is
the town of Meppen You may find what you are looking for there. The cost is
16 Euros per hour. But these people are experts in the area and they may
find your John Bernard in no time. They also know English fairly well.
Try here:

Of course, if your people aren't Catholic, that would not be the place to
look.
Good luck,
Barbara
