question 1 was already answered. Question 2: as You have written, they have
had sexual intercourse before they are married (anticipatus concubinatus).
Question 3, hard to decide, perhaps "Einwohner". Question 4: Schulmeister
and Schullehrer are synonymus: teacher.

German/Latinquestions

Dear List,

I have been seeking information on an ancestor, Jacob Stemmann. He was 
married to Catharine Rebecka Tomhave and was married in Apensen 18 May 
1860 according to the information  on Heino Günter Buckstöver's web site:

18.05.1860 Hans Jacob Stemmann + Catharine Rebecka Tomhave

His death record in Goodhue County, Minnesota contains the following 
information:

Goodhue County Courthouse, Death Records - Book 1, page 409, line 7.
"Records indicate his last name as "Stemimen" and he was 45 years old at 
the time of his death Date of arrival in Minnesota: May 10, 1866. Cause 
of Death: Accident. Place of Death: Belvidere. Occupation: farmer."

I have searched the LDS microfilm for Apensen (Evangelische Kirche 
Apensen (Kr. Stade), Kirchenbuch (Apensen), 1715-1852, Parish register 
of births, marriages, deaths and confirmations., FHL INTL Film 1188936 
and 1188937) but a) I can find no Jacob Stemmann born about 1832 (as 
death record would indicate) and b) the LDS records do not cover the 
year 1860 so I cannot check the record to learn who were his parents.

Does anyone on the list have access to the Apensen Lutheran church 
records for marriages in 1860 and/or could someone tell me who were his 
parents? I believe that he had a father Carsten that emigrated to 
Minnesota, as well. There are numerous Stemmanns in the Apensen records 
but I cannot determine the ancestry without this vital piece of 
information. Of course, I would like to also know the parents of the 
Catharine Rebecka Tomhave married in Apensen to Jacob Stemmann to be 
certain that she is the same one that I expect.

Searching the data on RootsWeb.com, I find information on Jacob Stemmann 
which claim the following birth information:

Birth: 31 JAN 1833 in Beckdorf, Königreich Hannover

or

Birth: 1832 in Germany
Father: Carsten STEMMANN b: 1810

but these sources give no references to back up this information.

In searching the Apensen records, I find a Hans Jacob Stemmann b. 31 Jan 
1837 in Beckdorf to Carsten Stemmann and Engel geb. Allers. He was 
confirmed in 1851. His father Carsten Stemmann was born 7 Sep 1806 in 
Apensen to Carsten Stemmann and Anna Margaretha Duden.

Please let me know if you can help me or if I can help you with the 
records that I have access to.

Misc. German and Latin questions:

1) What is the word, looks like "genattern", that I am seeing before the 
list of taufzeugen in some years. I assume that this is a synonym and I 
usually see it abbreviated "gen." or something like that. Am I reading 
this word correctly? Is it a synonym for taufzeugen?

2) In some years there is a section with the heading "Derer die 
kirchenbusse abgestattet haben" or such like. Is this a list of persons 
who have publicly repented before the congregation or pastor for some 
transgression? The listings often contain the Latin phrase "in primo 
gradu proptes anticip. concub.". Is this a reference to fornication, 
adultery or something of the sort?

3) What is the word, it looks like it begins "Eig" then maybe "m" or "n" 
something else and then perhaps "hn" and another letter or two. This is 
a commonly seen word after one's name that I presume is a reference to 
occupation or station.

4) Is there a substantial difference between a "schulmeister" and a 
"schullehrer" or are they synonymous?
