Greeting from just up I-80 outside of Sacramento. For the city of Coburg you are in the corret mailing list. You also might be interested on checking out the Thüringen mailing list.  The name Eckstein, although not on the same level of frequency as our Smith and Jones, it is also to be found in Thüringen. Before 1800 it showed up in Effelder, then died out. The name is also to be found in Neustadt bei Coburg after 1544 and still is very prevelant there.  It would be very helpful to your search if you had Erhard Eckstein's marriage records, or his obituary. If you're lucky it will say more than "born in Germany".

Diese Frau sucht Erhard Eckstein aus Coburg. Nach Amerika ausgewandert um 1853 im alter von 21 Jahren.Verheirated mit Johanna Wessing, Tochter von Georg Wessing. Schlug ihr vor auch in der Thüringer Liste zu suchen da der Name Eckstein in Süd-Thüringen auch stark verbreitet ist.
